About This Bursary
The Commonwealth Shared Scholarships programme is a collaborative initiative between the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and UK universities. It targets talented students from least developed and lower middle-income Commonwealth countries, enabling them to undertake full-time Master's studies at a UK university. The primary goal is to contribute to the development needs of scholars' home countries by providing advanced education in fields critical for global progress.
These scholarships are comprehensive, typically covering tuition fees, living allowances, travel to and from the UK, and other associated study costs. This holistic support ensures that financial barriers do not hinder deserving candidates from accessing quality education. While there is no formal work-back requirement, scholars are strongly encouraged to return to their home countries upon completion of their studies. They are expected to apply their enhanced skills and knowledge to drive positive change and development in their communities.
Eligibility Requirements
- Candidates must be citizens of, or have been granted refugee status by, an eligible Commonwealth country in the least developed and lower middle-income categories.
- Must be ordinarily resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- Must hold an undergraduate degree with a minimum upper second class (2:1) honours or equivalent.
- Must be undertaking a full-time Master's degree at a UK university.
- Must meet the academic entry requirements of the chosen UK university.
How to Apply

- 2Apply for an eligible Master’s course at a participating UK university.
- 3Submit a separate application for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship through the CSC's online application system.
- 4Ensure all required documentation, including academic transcripts and references, is provided.
